Just a quick one:

MOT Expires Monday

Need to drive down to Essex Saturday before

If car fails MOT on Thursday/Friday will I still be legal to drive down to essex due to the original not expiring till the Monday?**

**Obviously as long as nothing major is wrong - say if it was seatbelt pre-tensioners in the back failing etc.

Also to add: one of my front fogs on the st24 has fallen out, so only have 1 fog. Would this be a fail? Do they even check fogs?

My understanding is its still legal to drive till the current MOT runs out, however if its failed on brakes etc and then you skid off the road or can't stop and crash into a child you're gonna get super done over in court.

So in summary - Legal to drive = Yes - Wise to Drive = No

A failed MOT test does not invalidate your old MOT test however it doesn't get around the point that you're driving an un-roadworthy car - That itself IS illegal

[Edit] And a failed MOT would mean that you're quite aware that your car is unroadworthy!

Well my Escort failed on a broken rear fog switch LED, hardly makes the car unsafe.

It depends on what it fails on really.

I'd say that was overkill as well... MOT determines road worthiness as you say... Oh noes! I crashed into him because i couldn't see the LED on his switch. Banxx0r him!

Cheers, I wont be driving it if its failed on the breaks not working etc etc, but if its something that will not hinder the saftey of driving it...ie fail on rear seatbelts then all will be fine!

I always thought that if something was fitted then it had to work correctly.
take out the other fog light just to make sure:)

Ive always stayed with with my cars to help out pressing brakes etc while the MOT is being done (that and I have no where else to go) and not one out of the three mots have my front fogs even been switched on let alone looked at
