Hi guys

I LOVED oblivion and was thinking of the shivering isles expansion. Can anyone who has it please give your opinion? is it worth getting? also do you keep the main character you had in oblivion with all weapons, skills, stats etc or do you play as someone else from scratch?

many thanks folks

You can carry on with your oblivion character or you can start a new one, it's up to you. The expansion is excellent, I highly recommend you get it. :)

If you loved Oblivion you'll love Shivering Isles too - it's fantastic, I like it more than almost any part of Oblivion. It's got some really cool ideas and a totally different set of art assets so it looks unique and fresh in comparison to the Oblivion you've probably spent ages in!

It's great fun, I'd say definitely go for it. :D

you might want to wait for the new patch fix.
pre shivering isles beth released 1.2 and the S.I disk also had 1.2 on it (different version No though)
it caused a major bug which has been adressed by a beta patch from beth and a fix from the community.
S.I and associated patches has caused massive problems and crashes wholesale depending on how modded your game is.
i would advise waiting for beth's anticipated post 1.2 patch and install then.
many have had absolutely no probs but others have lost long term characters (me included :( )

quick question - am relatively new to Oblivion and although I've been playing it for what seems likes weeks solid, I have not achieved very many of the quests etc in Oblivion. I am currently level 17. I therrefore anticipate many more months playing Oblivion - therefore is it worth getting Shivering Isles now? Does it open up new area that I can play along side the normal Oblivion areas, or do I need to complete the original Oblivion first?

Many thanks!

The Shivering Isles will show up like an island in the game, and is an optional extra. I would suggest you play the original game first, get some experience, and level up quite a bit, before tackling the SI :)

So could I pop over to the island and have a bit of a play and then pop back and carry on to the main oblivion and keep doing that depending on my mood? Like a bit of variety so a few missions on the island to break up the other quests would be quite fun - would make the game seem larger as well, as the land is tiny !!!.............

Im not sure if you can just go back. I managed to corrupt my game whilst doing the shivering isles and have'nt been back yet. im sure you can though.
why do you say the land of Cyrodiil is small?
if you fast travel everywhere it may appear so but try walking or riding the length and breadth of it. you'd be suprised how long ut takes!
(there are plenty of mods that give extra landmass/islands and countries etc if you need more space)

damn, was hoping i could go backwards and forwards.

Only joking about the size of Cyrodil ! It's massive. and with Marts monster mod it takes hours to get anywhere due to the large numbers of beasts! Great fun though !

Cheers

Nic

It's not small, but it's too crowded IMO... That's what I disliked about it, you can't move without tripping over an inn or a mine or a cave system or an oblivion gate, all peacefully cohabiting  Like that village where you do the invisibility quest is right on top of a huuuuuuuge cave system, but apparently they never noticed the endless supply of monsters. It makes a big game feel small, like putting too much furniture in a room.
