Hey all.

Right for a start im not a massive Pc gamer. In reality the only Pc game that I really play a lot of is counter strike source which as we all know is a pretty old game now. My spec is as follows:

Amd Athlon 3400+ 2.4 ghz
1gb of ddr ram
3850 ATI agp socket.

When im playing CSS with no background tasks I get around 70 fps which is fine for me. However if im on Teamspeak or skype that drops down to around 30 maybe even 20! Is this caused by CPU or the Ram? If its the ram then I can easily switch in another 1 to 2 gb easily. I understand its an ancient system but for the little that I do use my PC now its all I need it for.

Any thoughts on how I could increase this ? :P

Easiest way would be to check your CPU usage and RAM usage when you are playing using these tools.

There are a few apps that will let you display CPU usage, ATI Tray Tools by Ray Adams is one of them. As for RAM you can check the RAM usage with just Steam and CSS running and then add in TS or Skype and see what effect it has.

Lucky lucky man. 70fps without background tasks? I get 25 with a config :(

/sob story.

Best idea would be to check usage as Tealc said.

If it is cpu related, solve it by finding a config (very very hard because 5 year old laptops seem to do better than my PC so no-one bothers making one :o)
