Overview:
Costs just under £300 currently, 7.2, lots of connections, active/passive zone 2, 4k passthrough and up-scaling, WiFi and Bluetooth, spotify (with a premium account).
Connections:
6 HDMI in, 2 HDMI out, plenty of connections for myself as I am only running a streaming PC with OpenELEC and a PS3.
I have plugged in just 2 speakers currently, 2 x Kef 305 Eggs. I have not used banana plugs, but I will when they turn up, either way, nice and simple after I stripped the speaker cable.
Lots of other connections but I dont need to use them.
WiFi/Bluetooth:
WiFi was easy to set up, found my network, connected straight away and was up and running with Spotify in a matter of minutes.
Bluetooth likewise a doddle, streamed music from my phone in under 30 seconds.
Sound:
This is my first receiver at home so my first test of commercial audio gear, I work as an AV engineer and have heard some of the best systems imaginable, this sounds great, obviously not up there with systems that cost thousands but for what it is a £300 amp with a pair of £300 speakers it sounds great, punchy and I was picking up things I have never heard before from my TV speakers. There is also plenty of power.
Overall:
I would give it 4/5, lots of connections, futureproofed for my needs with 4k pass through etc.
Build quality seems sturdy, I was surprised how heavy it was compared to some I have installed before.
My only gripe is that it runs quite hot, but then that is Onkyo, it was relatively warm within just half an hour of use.
At this price point I think it is a matter of what grabs your eye, I looked at a Yamaha, Denon, Sony and this. I am looking to use the zone 2 in the future and I liked the look of it, I had no use for airplay so I went for it.
Any questions I will be more than happy to answer them!
