Quick passport application question

I'm applying for a replacement passport because my current one is overly damaged. In section 4 (parents' details) it asks if my parents have a British passport, if so to give the number and date of issue...

My Mum lost her passport some time after it expired, so I do not know what I should do here.

I'm assuming I just leave them fields blank and include a note with my application explaining this?

Section 8 iirc, just put a note that you don't know your parent's passport number and it's expired anyway.

Yep I thought that's the case, but seeing as that's almost full with details of how the passport became damaged I think I'll have to add the extra information on an enclosed sheet of paper.

Do you actually need to fill that stuff in? I just left that stuff blank when I got a new passport.

For replacing a damaged or lost passport you're supposed to fill it out. For a straight forward renewal there's no need
