Hey, just wondering - as a seller, is there any real security benefit in waiting for the funds to have left your Paypal account and gone into your bank account before sending the item?

I'm curious as I have recently been reading about the wonderful world of chargebacks, and how you can get proper screwed over... If they're gonna con you as a buyer, will it make any difference if the funds have already reached your bank account?

If they do a charge back you account will go to a negative and then if you leave that paypal will pass your details are to a debt collection agency. So i would say makes little difference really.

Just stick to the rules and chargebacks are nothing to worry about.
Just remember:

Only send to aproved addresses
Send packages using a trackable mail system (RM Special Delivery for example)

With those two rules followed, anybody raises an issue against you and they are unlikely to win.

Hmm, someone's bought my item and the address is unconfirmed. Do you think I'd be taking a risk here then? I'll be sending the item tracked via Parcelforce 48, so I'll have solid proof that the item was sent.

Is there anything I can get the buyer to confirm or do to get around the fact that their address is unconfirmed which I can use agains them if they try anything funny?

Man, I sound so paranoid. :D

I disagree with not posting to unconfirmed. I am an unconfirmed buyer and I'm perfectly reliable n never had any problems...I say just be wary of the buyer's feedback.

But why haven't you confirmed your address though?

In this case, the buyer's confirmed to me she needs it delivered to her work address as it's a larger item which obviously can't be letterboxed or whatever, hence why it's unconfirmed. A quick google search reveals it is a real address for a company, so I'm thinking I'm just gonna go ahead and send it.

She does have one negative feedback, which puts me off a bit.

Since the transaction is not covered by Paypal's seller protection thing, will this mean I do not have a leg to stand on if the buyer decides to chargeback? I'd have hoped that by sending Parcelforce 48 I'd have sufficient proof the item was delivered?

Doesn't matter what postage you use, if the address isn't confimed, you have no cover.

That sucks.

I might have to insist on providing a confirmed address or no sale.

Couple more questions:
1) If the buyer agreed to use a different (confirmed address) would the a new transaction need to take place, i.e. refund original and request new payment so that paypal registers it as official?
2) Is it still possible to refund a Paypal payment once you've withdrawn the funds to your bank account?

1) Yes, you will have to refund the payment and request a new one
2) Yes, if you don't have enough in your account to refund it will give you options of where the rest should come from (direct debit, credit card etc.)

Thanks a lot :D

Probably a stupid question, but it's not possible for someone to chargeback after you've refunded or anything stupid is it?

Anyway, told my buyer I'll need things to proceed on a confirmed address or no deal. Hope I don't get negative...
