I have a D2X PCI-E sound card, which has short PCI-E connecctor at bottom of card.....can I fit this connector to a PCI-E 16x (or 8x) connection on motherboard which is a lot longer??? I usually just put GPU's into the 16x slots on the mobo

Cheers

16x 8x board, Giga Z68-DS3P

I installed a GTx 580, it has a single PCI-E slot just below the top 16x PCIe, then below that another 8x PCIe slot (for Xfire, SLI). If I install the 580 in the top 16x slot, i have to install a PCIe audio card in the 1x slot immediatley below it. If i do this then audio card is pretty much touching the 580. Now that would be OK....but it probably hindering air supply into the 580 as its pretty much covering the fans on it. So I wanted to install audio card further down in the 8x PCIe slot. But I guess thats going to drop performance of my GPU and make 8x instead of 16x.
Any ideas?

There is one 1xPCIe slot above the GPU, but as ive just installed a Corsair H80...i cant get the audio card in there :(

I guess it will probably just have to go right next to the 580...unless anyone has any beter ideas.

Cheers
