Quick photoshop help please.

Howzit all,

Try to do something in Photoshop 8 CS. And I am following a tutorial to do something. But I am stuck on one part and it's really starting to annoy me now.

The bit I am stuck at number 3. Could someone tell me exacly what to do here. I am struggling to get it.

Also the effects under number three. How do I bring those options up?

This is something I need done by Sunday. And need to do it tonight. So any help would be greatly appericeated!

It's badly worded: "Now select the heart layer and left-click it while holding Ctrl key" means: Create a selection around the heart layer by ctrl-clicking on its layer icon in the layer palette.

You should then get a selection outline around the heart shape. Press ctrl-shift-i to invert the selection. select your photo/image layer and press delete. This should delete the outer area of the image. hide the heart shape layer and you should be left with a heart shaped photo.

The effects panel is the blending options for a layer, right click on a layer in the layers palette and go to blending options.

Ah, top man!

One more thing, I'm newish to Photoshop. Where is the layer selection and pallete you keep refering to?

I got it to work and I can't use photoshop. Even had to find how to put a new layer on.

I put the orignal background on one layer and then then heart on another.

Then I left clicked and CTRL on the layer on the right. Not on the image.

then...well ''Now press Ctrl+Shift+i (this will inverse the selection) and then press Del key 2 times:''

layers palette: look in the top menu under window or view: show layers is F7 usually.

I'm at work buddy. But I will try that when I get home, and let you all know tomorrow. Where do I select the heart layer? Is it on the right hand side?

Well you have to make the heart be on a new seperate layer or it complains that it can't invert it all if its all on one layer! I'm not much on photoshop but I'm interested to get into it so I thought I'd check out your problem.

So layers is the F7 button. Then that'll bring up a menu prob on the right. Then at the bottom of it, there are 7 button running along the bottom. The new layer button is the one one in from the right. Looks like a page having its corner turned over.

To get the heart create the custom shape tool as its says. Then at the top once clicked change the shape to a heart.

I'm using CS2 so that is as I see it.

One other thing, just after number 3 in tha tutorial, the guy has the options for the effects, the red round the outside. He doesn't say how he brings those options up. Any ideas?
