Quick powerline adapter question

I'm thinking of using something like these these to move some of my mining rigs about and spread the heat.

Do these things NEED the Windows only software that comes with them or can you just pair them up with the buttons on them and go?

Also a bit worried about the "power saving" thing, I want them on constantly.

You don't need the software no.

They can just be paired and away you go.

No, but the wife would prefer me not to start drilling holes through floors/ceilings etc.
