Just moved into a new house and wonder if some kind soul out there could take a look at my DGN2000 stats below please and give me a rough idea as to what sort of speed I can accept, once DLM has finished, on Sky Broadband :

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 604 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.5 db 15.2 db
Noise Margin 11.5 db 17.4 db

Thank you so much for any help, in advance :)

16Mbit based on attenuation but your noise margin might limit it to lower. Make sure you have all devices microfiltered and the modem is in the master or test socket if possible.

Cheers :)

I think I've started the 10 day DLM period on Sky, so don't want to unplug the modem from the main socket to replug it in the test socket at risk of getting an unfavourable DLM result?

Cheers again!

See how it goes. If it ends up slower than you'd expect you can attend to your wiring later and ask sky to start DLM again, if when you make changes it makes a difference but the dslam doesn't pick up the change.

DLM still hasn't kicked in and I'm still on 4MB - any idea when it will?

Ignore; stats now :

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7002 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.0 db 15.1 db
Noise Margin 11.8 db 16.4 db

since 14's not in the quote. unlikely :p

I was quoted download speeds of between 5 and around 11.4, and I'm getting more then the higher end of that so 14+ would be achievable on that line as long as the noise margin settles into the target range sky has.

Another DLM tier last night has led to :

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10236 kbps 1072 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.0 db 15.1 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 8.9 db

Your noise margin is starting to settle into the target range now, so the speed Tealc mentioned should be attainable.

Yes that is the case. I was with Sky and it two weeks for the line to settle. I am now with talktalk and it was full speed straight away. I have an Attenuation of 26 and connect at 19508 however I requested that my target SNR must be set to 6. This is the lowest you should go before the line starts to see errors and it looses sync. You should connect once DLM has finished I would say around 15/16.

Here are my stats for an Attention of 26;

ADSL (Sync) Summary
System uptime: 47:57:21
Modem ADSL (Sync) uptime: 10:07:24
Interleaving: On
ADSL mode: ADSL2+
ADSL settings: PVC:0/38
ADSL line speed (kbps): up 945 down 19508
Line attentuation (dB): up 14.5 down 26.0
SN margin (dB): up 6.0 down 6.1
Total errors seconds: 0

Another welcome speed bump last night :

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13307 kbps 1065 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.0 db 15.1 db
Noise Margin 6.1 db 9.1 db

So, bit of a disaster.

The iplate came this morning and I took the chance of unplugging the router etc and fitting the plate. In doing so however, one of the small blue wires appears to have detached itself from my phone socket. This meant that when I reassembled the entire socket there was no dialling tone etc through the port on the front. I presume this is s a result of this detached wire?

So I had to remove the router again, disassemble the plate and plug the router back into the master socket where it works fine.

Now sadly it's resync'd as follows, losing about 4000 kbps :

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9376 kbps 1088 kbps
Line Attenuation 25.0 db 15.0 db
Noise Margin 6.5 db 8.0 db

Does this mean my DLM is scuppered?

No, I doubt it. What's interesting here is the drop in attenuation of 2dB. You would have expected an even better connection speed, rather than a drop.

I think one or two disconnections should be fine.

Yeah that is slightly strange. I can't explain why the attenuation would drop.

I'm working away from home this weekend and set my router up for remote access so I could check progress periodically. In the last hour it's gone unreachable so I suspect it may have rebooted and hence changed the IP scuppering my access.

Hope the speed has gone back up!
