Hi guys, I just bought a private plate for my dads Christmas present through newreg including printed plates. Just seen that they don't do the plates until the transfer is complete but I wanted to be able to wrap them up for him.

Assume I can just buy them from one of these online vendors who don't check the v5? Would there be any issues doing it this way?

Cheers fox. Will see if newreg can cancel the printed plates, otherwise he can have a second set to frame or something

Was a lot cheaper through them. The plates were an option that could be unticked, I just thought it would be less hassle

This is very suprising. Don't forget the DVLA price includes all the fees...

That might have been something I overlooked. It's on the dvla site for 399, think the total with newreg including the 25 quid plates was 430 so might have overpaid a fiver. Was a bit of a rush thing anyway for reasons not worth getting into.

On another note, the other thing they offered was a 25 quid service to coordinate the transfer, take care of the "beurocracy" of it. I assume this is a con?

The DVLA price is an all-inclusive, all in price. Everything you need bar the bits of persex. No point buying from anyone else - it includes all transfer fees.

You can then get a set of plates made up for under 20 quid.

Yeah fair enough, lesson learned - although it's unlikely I'll ever buy another one! As I said it was a rush for various reasons, that fiver isn't going to ruin me
