So my xfx 750watt stopped working today and is currently being rma but xfx said this can take up 2 4weeks anyway i have 2 450watt psu's and was wondering if i could use one to power the motherboard/cpu and other one to power just the gpu? I know one can't handle it on it's own as pc shuts down when playing games.

Running a q6600 @ 3.33ghz on a p5q deluxe motherboard with 4gb kingston hyper-x mem and a msi 6850

As far as I know it's pretty much impossible unless you're going to start soldering them up and chopping wires, as there's no easy way to activate power from the 2nd PSU to the graphics card when the 1st PSU is connected to the motherboard.

Only thing I can suggest is to underclock the CPU and GFX, disconnect any spare hard disks, and see if you can run it off 1x 450W.

Or see if a friend has an older graphics card you can swap with temporarily?

Are you sure its the PSU's? 450w should be fine for that so if their both having issues that's a little worrying, unless their made by Chinapower or something.

You can power one up by shorting the pins so it thinks its had an on signal from the MB, but ive only seen this done to pre-charge a water cooling loop (theres a guide to doing it in the WC section), not to run GFX cards so im unsure how safe it would be.

Well i went ahead and did it anyway i used a paper clip from the green to black on other psu that is powering the gpu and other psu is powering the cpu/motherboard i played 40mins of cod black ops and didn't have any shutting down issues...
