Hey folks,

I've got my hands on a second hand Corsair 520W PSU, going to be using it for an upcoming budget build. However I'm not getting the rest of my components for a few weeks, wanted to test out the PSU to make sure it works, so that I can sort out a refund etc if need be.

Anyways so instead of rewiring my entire current rig, can I use the 520W to power eg just my Radeon 7970 to test that it works? I'm presuming I'd do the following:

-unplug 7970 from current XFX PSU
-plug 7970 into Corsair 520W
-jump start Corsair 520W
-power on rig that is otherwise wired into my XFX PSU

Any huge warning flags jumping at people? Is there a better way to test the Corsair?

Thanks :)

Ok thanks - was just making sure I wasn't going to make anything explode. But yeah, just wanted to test that the PSU wasn't completely dead. As long as it powers whatever the 7970 needs above what the motherboard provides, I'll be reasonably confident the rest of the rails work :)

Link a paperclip between the green and black wires on the 24pin block. When you flick the PSU power switch at the back it will power on without needing to be hooked up to a mobo

Yep, jump starting the PSU without a motherboard was part of my plan, just figured that stressing it a little would be a slightly more comprehensive test.
