Having moved to my new place and plugging up all the gear again I can't remember which onboard NIC I was using on my motherboard. I have a choice of Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-V or Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30) 
Only have approx 78Mbps fibre from Sky but you know... I think I'd looked into it before and read the Intel was preferred
