quick q - skt A cpus

thats not a socket a though lol :D

HeHe...

Sod it, who still has, and more importantly, who still uses Socket 7? Hell, I got a 386 LapTop that I was given only last year because the previous owner finally upgraded... I also got a 486 Laptop too!

Should have been able to get more out of it IYAM

However, 2.5 is a magic figure for me TBH

My Winchester, Newcastle, Venice, Manchester ( Well, all my lower end 64Bit CPUs ) were all capable of running at 2.5 and so I left them there as a kind of balance for the LAN Machines.

Similarly with my Socket A Setups... I still have a few CPUs and Boards and they all do 2.5 at least

i have the old xp-m1600 chip (256k l2) and had 10x274 out of that on a DFI with bh5, watercooled, very fast, the DFI board died recently though - anyone got a spare? lol it would have gone faster but the vcore on the DFI went unstable before i could properly volt the chip..

great chips, mine was 24/7 up to the time the mobo died, never missed a beat.. enough for what i needed too. Would still run it if i had a board for it :(

Man I remember spending a lot of money on some Mushkin BH-5, damn that stuff run hot and high volts! Whatever happened to Mushkin eh, they dominated that era from what I remember.

I also remember the days (this might be my mind messing with me though) when G.Skill and maybe Geil was ultra rare exotica RAM which had to be imported and tripled your epeen instantly.

I still have my Thoroughbred 2400 box sitting in the corner - set to 2.0ghz with an X1650 Pro it ran FEAR very nicely on medium detail.

Still use it as a DHCP/PXE box, which I must firer up again one of these weekends to upgrade my laptop to Ubuntu 9.04, seeing as i broke X trying to get a 915 GPU to run 1080P video and can't get it working again  :D

God, I built that over five years ago - back in the day, aaarrr, etc.

only problem is the Aero7 cooler, which is loud and not that good these days, and the 80mm fans which are also very loud. I wasn't interested in silence back then. My new Q6600 box is near silent, whcih is much nicer...

Must recycle the Athlon box into a new chassis and use it as a NAS methinks.

lol this thread still here :p

the 2500+ Barton has now been transformed using a shuttle SN45gv2 into a nice littel download/media box in teh front room :) I didn't bother grabbin a 3200+ after all as I threw a few bits of video n stuff at the 2500 and it worked fine.
