Hi,

Just built my new system, running great.

Q6600
Abit IP35
4Gb Corsair 4 4 4 12
150Gb Raptor
8800GTX
Vista Ultimate x64

Overclocked the chip in bios to 370x9 3.33GHz.

Changed voltages and it boots fine and runs windows fine.

Windows reports it as this but just run CpuZ and got a shock as it says the chip is running at 370x6 2.2Ghz!!

Whats happenin, am i experiencing throttling, how do i get it off?

Thanks

That's probably caused by Speedstep, which reduces the multiplier of the chip down when the computer is idle. You can turn this feature off in the BIOS by disabling EIST and C1E.

I dont mind that really. Dont wanna be running at full pelt while using Word.

As long as it goes to full speed when needed. ie just downloading Bioshock demo.

Thanks for that.

Yeah as soon as the CPU requires anything more demanding than what it's running at with Speedstep on, then it'll increase the multiplier to what it should be. I have known people to have issues however with Speedstep and overclocking due to the chip being made to go up and down so much in frequency and volts, so just a word of warnning on that.
