Quick query on GPU power consumption

Hey guys

After an earlier issue I had with my 4K vs 1080p over clocks, it was brought to my attention that even at 100% usage the load on the card is completely different at these 2 resolutions.

Does it follow that GPU power consumption will go up at 4k (compared to 1080p) even when all other things (clock speed, voltage increase etc) remain the same?

I would suspect it would yes as it will be a much higher level of data being communicated between the card and monitor.
Example:
http://k.kramerav.com/support/bwcalculator.asp

1080p -
Bandwidth Per Channel
1.49 Gbps
=
Total Signal Bandwidth
4.46 Gbps

UHD 60FPS -

Bandwidth Per Channel
5.94 Gbps
=
Total Signal Bandwidth
17.82 Gbps

Under this basis, like anything with a computer running at a higher data rate/bandwidth will consume more power given everything else being equal (same as many other power saving features in modern PCs).

How MUCH extra power it consumes though I couldn't say, short of saying if you really need to know getting a power metre and comparing at stock.
