Quick Question about BT Infinity

Ok so me and the missus are moving in to a flat in a month and a halfs time. I agreed instantly cause its nice and its postcode has virgin media cable. BUT theres a problem. Our flat is in a little courtyard off a large road. The road postcode is the same as ours, the road gets cable, we dont.
Now this naturally devastated me and many tears were wept. So before we renegged on our deposit and went off in a huff we checked out the competition. Currently we live in a flat with adsl at around 3mbit speeds on a good day, and dealt with by the landlord who refuses any upgrades etc. Our new place is the same distance from the exchange. BUT there is BT Infinity.
On the website it said normal broadband we can get 14mbit max, but on BT infinity we can do 75-80mbit. So I was a bit sceptical, knowing how terrible ADSL is, and I decided to contact them.
"excuse me sir / madam can I confirm the websites speed, as our residence is in a courtyard and not the main road associated with said postcode."
"ofcourse, let me check, yup those speeds are correct"
"orly? Is that up to those speeds though like 'up to 74mbit adsl' where I would only see a fraction of that?"
"nopes, those are the speeds you would be seeing at our residence!"

So now I come to you chappies. Does anyone here have experience with infinity? Is this true? It is that much better then standard copper cable BB?

It would work out £5 more then virgin media cable, and half the speed, but its the best available!

Infinty is great, look at other providers though as BT are expensive, if you can get BT inifity you should be able to get Sky/plusnet fibre too. Its just fibre connection to your cabinet then copper to your house so closer your cabinet the better the speed, so you could be 2 miles from your exchange giving you trash adsl speeds but if your cab is 10ft away then you will get amazing infinity speeds.

Well that is very good news because the cabinate, I assume thats the green junction box thing on the road, is literally at the entrance to the courtyard, about 10m from my flat! So maybe they werent kidding!

Ok having a look between BT and sky it seams sky is much worse then BT.
BT:
£15.99 phone and £20 for 3 months, then £26 from then on. Making it £485.88 for a years worth. No line connection fee. And they are giving awat £125 of sainsburys vouchers.

Sky:
Free for 6 months, then £20 per month, and line rental is £16.40 per month, which makes it £316 for a year. But they charge £7 for router delivery, £30 for activating fibre and £20 for connecting a phone line. plus theres no vouchers.

So bt is £485 for first year, and sky is £373. Which is a difference of £112 but BT give £125 vouchers. Making them slightly better for year 1.
After year one though it is 436 (sky) versus 504 (bt) per year. So it depends ho long we are planning to stay!
*scratches beard*

Price it over 18 months? IIRC that is the tie-in from BT... after that you're free to look at what the best deal is again.

If you pay the BT line rental a year upfront it drops to about 13.50 a month.

Remember to sign up through Quidco and get between another 80 and 250 quid back depending on if you sign up to broadband or broadband + TV.

Fibre speeds depend on the distance between you and the cabinet, so if you're almost sitting on top of it then you'll get the top end of the speed table (that does depend on how many people are subscribed to fibre services).
