Quick question about case fans...

Hi,

I've never taken much notice of case cooling or airflow or anything before I started reading this site - thanks guys . My current (old) setup is in a cheap case which only has a side window fan, but I've noticed it does have the grill patterns on the back presumably for a fan. If I wanted to add a fan to the back, how do I know what size to get? Is there a standard measurement for the screw holes I can check?

Also a few weeks ago I added a blower to the slot under my agp card to get rid of some of the hot air and it really made a diifference to the overall temp - will adding this additional case fan close to the CPU make any more difference? I presume its worth it for the few quid it will cost... System is an Athlon 2800+ on an A7N8X board. I don't want to spend too much as I'll be selling the system at the end of the year and starting from scratch, but I'll be selling to a friend who doesn't know too much about PCs, so I'd like to hand over a system that will be in decent shape for its age

Adding an extra fan will help lower the temperature inside your case, probably quite noticably.

Case fans come in standard sizes, if its an older case then it will probably use 80mm fans but newer ones these days are ususally 120mm. You can easily tell what size you need by measuring how far the screw holes are apart.

Measure the distance between the screw holes. It will be either 80/92/120mm. It may be smaller but it's unlikely. Then, check out some fans here.
