Quick question about chip and pin

Hi - I've heard that with chip + pin if you enter your pin wrongly 3 times (even non-consecutive times) that your card is blocked.

So even 1 wrong, 10 right, 1 wrong, 10 right then the 3rd wrong blocks it?

Is that true? Finding it hard to find an answer on google as few articles feature the distinction between consecutive and non-consecutive!

Might just be a Lloyds TSB thing? The credit card support team were pretty adament about it!
