Quick question about Ethernet cable's

Can i run 2 computers off a single ethernet cable? I have the router downstairs and a single ethernet cable running to the top floor of the house. Can i run 2 computers off this cable without compromising speed? It will be a ball ache running another cable up there

Buy a switch, the shop sell them here

Plug the cable from downstairs into it and then you connect the PC's to it

will work fine with a switch

if you had say 4 machines on the switch, all copying files to 'downstairs' at the sametime, there'd be a slowdown

but if it's just normal usage etc, there'll be no effect
