Quick question about gamertag

Please don't ask about the details

I want to change my gamertag. To make this simple, say the gamertag I own the now is BB and the gamertag I want to change it to is AA. I own both accounts which have the same name, if I delete AA does that mean I can change BB to AA? Or if I delete the account does the gamertag stay locked?

Doesn't work

I closed the Windows Live ID account I had with the gamertag but the gamertag still exists.

Well, I could have but I deleted the account didn't I

I wanted to work around it so I could pay 800 points instead of 1600.

Okay I closed the Windows Live ID associated with the gamertag but I can still login with it. I can probably spend 1600 points to change it x_X

I think it should be okay.

I would much prefer if the Live model was much more like steam. With steam I just have my email as my login and then I can change my name to anything online.
