I've been reading up on this game as i might buy it soon, and i have read countless times that it is not a "true" mmorpg compared to something like WoW. Can someone explain to me what this means, as i don't quite understand why

Thanks guys :)

Not sure but I have a copy I'd sell you. :) I bought it on a whim awhile ago and played it about 3-4 hours and it didn't tickle my fancy.

Guild Wars is not a "true" massively-multiplayer online game like World Of Warcraft because it's not based on a persistent world. Whenever you leave a city all the creatures and most of the loot spawns will re-appear as opposed to things staying there for all players.

Don't let that put you off though, Guild Wars is a fantastic game and this forum has a guild there called The Godless which you can find in some peoples signatures.

its not a true mmorpg because when you want to go outside of town, you get your own private area to play in like in diablo 2 :) inside towns theres things called districts, its just like a chat room like lobby1 and lobby2

I see, i was looking for a more social sort of game...:(

You can get trials of GW and WoW, probably worth giving them a go before you decide. WoW is more social but you pay £9 a month for the priviledge.

Personally i gave up on WoW after 6 months because i didn't think the end game material was possible for casual players, only for the hardcore.

GW is much more accessible and easier for noobies.

I can't really afford to spend £9 every month on WoW so i guess thats ruled out.. :( I can get GW for £9.99 but im not sure now

One of the main reasons I dislike the game, not really hate, is from most of the people I've known in RL have become people who sit at the PCs playing it for 6+ hours a day. My old housemate failed this year of uni which some of it can be put down to, and though it may have been wonderful for social stuff online, it screwed up his social lif in RL chosing to play WoW instead of coming out with us. We gave up on him in the end. That's one example, and I'd say 75% of the WoW people I know or have known are like that.
