So currently i have a 3 way setup all connected together

1 TP-Link 1000mb HomePlug AV2 - Main Router
1 TP-Link 1000mb HomePlug AV2 - Other end of the house into another router setup to re broadcast wifi signal
1 TP-Link 200mb HomePlug AV - Upstairs plugged into PS3 (room above second powerline)

The setup works fine. But i dont get great speeds across the network. I get about 120mb to the second router and 40 to the ps3. this is pretty annoying as i have 200mbit fiber, and I’m planning to set up a steam link to the ps3 location coming from the main router location.

I'm thinking the reduced speed may be due to mixing AV2 and AV standards.

Any thoughts?

Cat5 cables.
Go into loft / under floor, heck, even holes through the corners of walls.

Then it's Gb to everything.

EDIT - If loft and it's glass fibre, wear gloves / cover arms as it is hella itchy.
(Newer insulation is better)

Homeplugs are misleading, when they quote '200' what you actually get is a theoretical maximum of 100 each way, 500 products are regularly crippled with 10/100 ports and in reality you'll see considerably less than that in the real world.

So the maximum your PS3 will ever see if 100, general experience suggests the PS3 store will be the limiting factor here, but your upstairs sockets may be on a dedicated breaker, that will drop speeds considerably no matter what you do. If you want to test this swap one of the 1000 units over to the PS3 and test.

Haha, dont think that would be appriciated in a rental house!

I Understand that. But would you expect a drop from 500 to ~120 on the second router?

Cat5e, not Cat5.

I've added at least one cable to every place I've rented. Just do a tidy job and they will never notice, free upgrade

Generally cat5 is speccd for 100mbit. cat5e for 1000. doubt you can find cat5 anywhere new nowadays
