Like most people i download all the latest drivers from the manufacturers website rather than use the driver disc that comes with a motherboard, the motherboard is a Z77X UD5H and its windows 7 64bit.

Ive got a question about 2 drivers in particular from the Gigabyte site, they are under SATA RAID/AHCI.

One says:

Intel SATA Preinstall driver
(For AHCI / RAID Mode)
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy.

The other says:

Marvell Preinstall Driver
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy.

I don't use a floppy, do these drivers need to be installed before Windows, if so at what point and are they ok from a USB flash drive ?

This is the drivers page for my board, just click the windows 7 64 bit option, its under SATA RAID/AHCI

You should only need them if you are setting up the OS on a RAID array?

If you are not,

Ensure you connect the boot drive to a Intel SATAIII port if its a SSD and disconnect any other HDD's.

Make sure AHCI is enabled for that port in the BIOS (it should be by default)

Run through the OS install.

Then put the chipset drivers, Intel RST, sound, GFX drivers all on etc.

Check disk defrag is disabled if you are running a SSD.

Thanks Stulid, its appreciated.

I'm fine with doing normal windows installs, its just those 2 drivers threw me a bit with saying to install them via a floppy. I'm just using a single SSD drive so need need for RAID.
