Hi all,

Purchased a Compaq latptop recently, nv1005 I think, (100 quid,,,,,,if you must know).

Im doing a reinstall of everything and its just finished installing windows. I need to put some video drives in, I know its an ATI chipset so if I just get the latest version from ATI will it be ok? Or is it diferent for laptops?

Thanks

The price doesn't interest me, the model number does(by the way it is an n1005v), you would need the Mobility drivers which are available from ATIs website here although you could download an older version from the Compaq/HP support site. :)

Not even the slightest, was it no help?

Nope, it didn't help me to narrow down the drivers so really of very little interest but if you want me to say that you got a bargain, I think you probably did :) No worries about the drivers, I just hope it all works as it should.

If you are trying to install both the .Net framework and the all in one package(labelled as for high speed connections on this page) then it should be just shy of 60mb, if you download the individual drivers(under the low speed part) then you will need the GART driver, Display Driver and the Southbridge driver but I don't know if you need the Catalyst Control Centre.

It might be easiest to just connect the laptop to the internet for long enough to download the full package. :)

Im downloading the file now via that link provided :) thanks!

What would be the best way do you think to connect the laptop to the internet.

Would it be possible to copy over NIC details and then just swapp over the ethernet cable for when I when I want to use either PC or laptop?

Regards,

Although I found the specifications for the laptop I can't remember them offhand so I could be wrong but since I don't think it has a wireless card or similar I suspect just copying across your settings for your internet connection and swapping the ethernet cable, as and when required is the easiest way. If you have a router then obviously it becomes a whole lot simpler as both can be connected at once.

Depending on how you have your internet connection set up, it might automatically assign the necessary network addresses etc but if not just copy them manually.

Thanks for reply,
Do you know how to copy the settings manually? Is it the MAC?? address needed?
