Buy a new monitor?

Hook it up to a TV with HDMI input?

Buy a cheap GFX card with VGA/DVI-I output?

Is the DVI-D on the motherboard? Usually a proper GPU will have DVI-I and carry both analogue/digital signals but DVI-D will ONLY carry Digital signals hence the reason you cannot convert it out into analogue VGA with a mechanical only adapter.

You can buy DisplayPort to VGA adapters however. I have used them, they work, require no software and are cheap. Easy.

DVI-D is digital only. It's DVI-I that DVI to VGA adapters will only work since DVI-I can output anagolue signals. These adapters are usually passive (just rearranges the pins).

As Sin Chase has mentioned, you can buy a Displayport to VGA adapter instead, and they will work since they're active.

Great i will buy a display port to vga, i built an itx fm1 system so i didnt have to buy a gpu, didnt realise the board only supported dvi-d so was stuck for a day, i will get a new monitor soon but as funds are short i will just buy the adapter for now.
