Quick question about Panasonic record-to-USB (GT60)

I'm currently weighing up between the ST60 and the GT60 (42"). Upon my usual trawl around the local electronics shops on my lunchbreak I had a good conversation with someone in one who pointed out that the GT60 has 2x Freeview HD tuners, 2 x Freesat tuners, and records to USB. Whereas the ST60 only has a single tuner and doesn't record.

Can anyone explain exactly how this works? He was saying you simply mount a drive and then it works through your EPG as you would expect a PVR to? Is this correct? For some reason I assumed it was a fairly basic functionality (i.e a crash record to simply record whatever was on screen). Can you do timed records for the future, series link etc.? What doesn't it do?

What I'm essentially asking is -- with a big enough drive (?) will that record-to-USB functionality make my current SD Humax PVR obselete?

I was also offered the GT60 for £915 inc 5yr warranty. Soooo tempted!

Thanks.

I have a GT50 and the record to USB function is so horrible to use i'd gladly pay <£100 to buy a brand new talk talk youview box off gumtree or ebay instead.

I think it's purely record by timer, no chance of series recording, etc.

Seriously just pretend it's not even there.

Is the Panasonic EPG still pretty terrible? I saw it once a couple of years back and I think I'm still scarred.

Your PVR box will be easier to use - set and watch recordings.

I have a Humax YouView box which has twin tuners, and so only use the TV recording to USB as a backup when my other half needs to record 3 programmes whilst watching a forth:rolleyes:

The Samsung version does have proper record scheduling, series link with iOS apps to do it remotely :)

Hmn ok! I think I might need to see it in action but that doesn't sound particularly good. So unfortunately that now means I can't add that to my reasons of why to get the gt60 over the st60 :( Even though I won't be gaming that much - if I do it'll be COD or BF4 so the input lag could get really annoying.

It seems the gt60 has record by TV guide.
See page 81 in the manual:

Sounds alright but why can't you watch another channel when its recording? I thought the TV has two freeview HD tuners and two freesat HD tuners?
