Hey,

I bought the OCZ Special OPS 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit today but was wondering about its compatibility with certain mobos.

I know that ddr3 ram has to go with a drr3 mobo.

But the supported ram speed of many mobos is PC3-10600, PC3-8500 whilst the ram I bought is PC3-12800.

Will using a mobo that doesn't support PC3-12800 hinder speeds?

I've noticed that none of the motherboards I've looked at support this.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks.

for the ease of anyone reading this:
- his ram is 1600Mhz
- his MoBo only supports up to 1333Mhz

mark, i am in exactly the same boat. ive bought that exact same ram, and have a MoBo that only goes up to 1333Mhz. i will be building the PC on the weekend.

as far as i know, your motherboard will just set the ram's clock speed down to 1333Mhz, with no problems. yes, it will be a little slower, but i doubt you will notice it.

i am sure there is a way of overclocking RAM on motherboards, and getting motherboards to support RAM that is faster than it was originally intended to, but im not even going to attempt to explain it because im almost completely clueless.

another thing i believe you could do is reduce the RAM timings to a greater extent than you would be able to if it was running at 1600Mhz, reclaiming some of the performance you lost, but i am incredibly out of my depth there.

to be honest though, i doubt its going to be a problem atall.
