Hi all,

A quick question if I may about windows 7:

Does the Home premium edition have enough features for use on a pc that is setup to share files with others on a network (acting itself as the 'server') and play games/general use.

I assume it will be ok but I want to make sure before purchasing. (I also don't want to spend extra on Pro / Ultimate if I can help it)

Cheers

yes you can share folders between computers in a workgroup scenario. you just can't add it to a domain

Excellent, thanks guys.

I should be fine as I only want one computer to be sharing files to the others (essentially being a NAS). I don't have any need for anything more complicated at the moment.

I ran Vista Home Premium and could share files perfectly well. The features/options in Windows 7 versions are very similar to Vista.

HomeGroup is only useful if you have more than one Windows 7 computer.

If it makes any difference my proposed setup will be:

Main computer running Windows 7 acting as home server (sharing DVD's, music etc)

Laptop running Windows 7 (upgrading for the improved performance from Vista Home Premium)

Laptop running XP media Centre edition (may upgrade to Vista using licence from laptop above)

Netbook running XP

360 & PS3 acting as media extenders.

I *think* this should work.
