Hey guys, just about to put together an AM2 system for my gf's uncle (Thanks for the help on the spec) Just one small query as the last pc i built was recent but socket A..

I am gonna be using the stock hs/fan, the 77 year old don't wanna be overclocking (Hardly gonna push it at stock lol) But with the white thermal pad on the bottom of the hs/fan will that be ok? or best to take it off and us AS5? Like i say i've not built an AM2 system before so wasn't sure if this would be the best way, or would leaving at stock w/ the pad still work fine?

Just incase it matters, its gonna be on an AM2 X2 3800 chip :)

Thanks all

The thermal pad on the bottom of the heatsink will be perfectly fine if its just being used on stock clocks/volts.

I wouldn't bother with AS5 unless you really are looking at overclocking.

Also out of curiosity considering this setup is for a person who won't be overclocking etc then why AM2? Why not go for a considerably cheaper SKT 939 setup instead?!

Agreed

I fully agree, he's just a rich guy who uses his pc for basic office chores, but won't reason down to single core 3700+ etc..he;s just heard dual core si the way forward and no matter what i tell him he won't listen, so if he wants to waste his money and won't listen to me, there's not much i can do, apart from hope for a big cheque afterwards ;)
