Hi all.

First off, sorry if this questions is a) stupid, and b) vague, but I could do with a bit of help.

I don't have a car but I occasionally borrow the family car when I need to run about on the weekends. The car in question is on 03 plate astra. Was going to use it tomorrow but just had a text from my brother that apparently the car wouldn't start, he turned the key and nothing happened. Dad went and gave him a hand and took the spare key, used that and started fine.

Now I know naff all about cars, but I'm presuming this may be something to do with the immobilizer and some kind of chip in the key broken? Is that likely to be the case?

If so is it likely to just be a dodgy key or could there be larger problem? He's taking it to get it looked at on Monday, but I was wondering if I'll be alright to take it out and just use the spare key tomorrow, or if its likely to get the same problem again miles away from home. It's started up a couple of times with the spare key today fine...

Thanks for any help
