Hi all, I'm just about to get a new pc (just waiting for the money to clear) and I want to sort out the picture and sound cabling so I thought I'd ask on here.

I have an LCD tv (Toshiba 42X3030D if it matters) and was thinking of connecting the new pc to it. The pc has a BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) graphics card so I was planning on just connecting a DVI from that to the HDMI input on the tv. I just wanted to see if many people do that and any cable recommendations? The second part is probably a very silly one, does the cable have a 'direction' (I don't know the terminology) i.e. is an HDMI - DVI cable the same as a DVI - HDMI cable?

The final part is sound, I know DVI cannot carry sound so I'll need to connect the motherboard (Asus P5K Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard) to something. I have an old home cinema (Sony DAV) that I could use but was wondering if you guys knew anything clever?

Cheers
Andrew

The cable is non-directional. With analog sources, the quality of the cable matters and can influence picture quality. However, with a digital source like HDMI the quality of the cable is largely irrelevant. If the signal gets to the device, then all is good; if it works then it will work well. Get a cheapo cable and don't spend too much.
