Quick question for Geforce 7 owners

Still have a 7900GTO (essentially a slightly underclocked GTX) running pretty much every game fine here (apart from Crysis, which I don't play).

My brother kept his 7900GTO until age of conan where it dropped to 0.5fps in some areas - replace it with an 8800GT and hes getting much better performance...

I also have a "rare" 6800 (PCI-e part bridge to AGP) that runs at ultra extreme performance along with 512Mb DDR3 and if you keep the res low (1024x768) it will play most games out with decent quality settings - even 1280x1024 is playable which I find quite suprising.

0.5fps on a 7900GTO? Sounds 20x worse than Crysis....

Funnily enough its listed as the 'recommended' graphics card spec. What settings was that at? Drivers?

Not sure on settings I think medium - it was playable if a bit low in most of the game - but in some places like the top of towers where you could see a good distance the game would grind to a halt.

Sounds like the devs need to revise their "recommended" specification.

I've friends who game on all sorts of hardware, one has an AMD XP2000 and 6200

He just cranks the settings to lowish and 640x480 or 800x600 if lucky and has a stash of fairly recent games. Some games are unplayable as it doesn't have a DVD, only a CD..

Just a question of expectations I guess.

The 78/7900's will play a lot, I used to play Oblivion and BIOShock @ 1280 .. a little jumpy at times but playable. It's only the likes of Crysis and WIC that cause real pain unless you seriously back down the settings

My (Gainward) 7800GTX at work is definately feeling the pain, esp if I play at 1600x1200. Weird thing is, when I first got it my 78GTX felt similar to/faster than my X1800XT but the more modern a game gets the more the X1800 leaves it in the dust!
Can't wait until I get a new work machine :)

ATI are good for that. Their hardware scales amazingly compared to Nvidia throughout time (old cards run newer games much better). I seen a review about this and Nvidia's older cards got destroyed by ATI's old cards.
