Will a Palit GeForce GTX 1060 work with this oldish rig?

Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz Socket 1155
Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H Socket 1155 VGA DVI HDMI Motherboard
Corsair 750W CXM Builder Modular 80 Plus Bronze PSU
Crucial 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Ballistix Sport Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V

The reason I ask is that a few years ago I bought a HIS HD 7950 IceQ 3GB and it refused to work. I sent it back for another and that didn't work either. Gave up and got a refund. The system does work with an old Radeon HD 6770 card though.

As far as I can tell the Palit should work or am I missing something?

I want to play Rage and Arma 3 and probably Fallout 4.

Don't see any reason why not but then I can't see any reason the 7950s wouldn't work with it either tbh.

I have a rig here on a i7 3770K, that's been clocked to 4.4GHz pretty much since day one, Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H with a Corsair AX850 PSU.
Memory has been swapped a few times but currently has 2x8GB 2133MHz (11-11-11-27) 1.5v.
Originally it had a 7970 (which is still going in an old LGA775 set up) now it has a Fury in it with a custom BIOS.

So not identical but fairly similar.

TBH, can't see why you'd have issues with any one card in your setup. Did you do things like checking/updating the mobo BIOS etc when you tried the 7950s?

No, stupidly I did not. The first 7950 I got was factory sealed but had a dent in one of the heat pipes so I figured it was faulty. When the second one failed to work I just got fed up with them and said to hell with gaming for a while.

I shall update the bios with the F11a revision.

Thanks for the reply.

I shall check that out. Thanks.

Just out of interest, do you think coughing up the extra wonga for the 6 Gb version of the 1060 would be worth it?

OK guys. Thanks for all the information. Most helpful.

I've successfully updated my bios and all I have do now is decide which graphics card to order. I've started to consider a 1070 as well.

Has all z77 BIOS releases ended about 2013?

My Z77X-UD5H is on BIOS F16h dated 07/11/2016.

Check the thread on TT here, that's where I got it from. Loads of other GB boards listed.
There is another thread on there that has BIOS' that have been modified further to include updates to certain onboard chips like the Intel, Marvell ones etc but tbh I've never tried those out.
