ASUS P5B and GeIL Timing

Hi Guy’s

Hope someone can give me some advice! I have an Asus P5B running a E6600 and 2Gig of GeIL memory.

Well don’t know how many of you have read this thread here
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17612714 but there seems to be an issue setting the timings correctly with this board!

The Geil memory is a con i think, because on asus boards when you get to above 360 fsb it requires SPD timings so the timings will be shown as 5.6.6.20 once the fsb gets to 400mhz.

and theirs no way to set the memory to it correct timings, as geil have only programed the memory upto 667 @ 5.5.5.20

what we need is the memory reprogrammed to say 4.4.4.12 @ fsb 400

So I want to throw the towel in and get some memory from recommendation.
Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can get some ram on this board that will setup correctly?

The problem is that that the Asus board sets the bank cycle time (trc) on its own and pays no attention to the SPD value. This is something that only Asus can fix with a bios update. Once you manually input the 4,4,4,12 timings the board will set this timing way faster than the value specified in the SPD. Do not bother changing the ram, you will see the same problem repeat itself with the new stuff. I had this problem with the Asus PW5 DH & G.Skill 6400HZ.

Man that suck’s!!

So until they fix the Bios issue or I get another board I’m snookered?

That’s harsh..... :(

Thanks for the reply though.

Has anyone tried the bios update's for this board as I still have the issues above!

I'm thinking about getting a new MB or MB and RAM because I still have the duel boot problem with this board and it still keeps setting my FSB to default every now and then :(

Xray

PS. Sorry this is an old post but I've just had enough of the MB now!
