Quick Question: NVidia 5900XT to 7600GS?

Hi all, Looking to replace an geforce 2 that died on my dads old system, and figured I might as well get a new card for myself and give him my current one...

both of us are on AGP (although his is 4x only, but i assume it just degrades performance of newer cards rather than stopping them running). I currently have a XFX 5900XT, and wondered whether getting a 7600GS would give me better performance in CS:S/battlefield2 and maybe a decent game of bf 2142 with a barton xp 3200 cpu and 2gb ram.

If it's not worth the £80 upgrade, i'll just get him a £25 card from somewhere to tide him over till his next upgrade. he's not playing games, just cad work (the tnt2 card in there as a temp measure is "tearing" quite badly !)

hell-yes, thats worth the £80. the geforce5s were appauling! maybes try and stretch to the GT though, or look for the palit GS, as it has ddr3 memory. basically though, yes you will notice an increase in performance. you're CPU isnt exactly anything special but its capable. 2gb, lovely.

get the 7600gs. it's a nice little card for the money and should give quite a noticeable performance increase over your old card.

The 7600GS is a MUCH better card than your 5900, agreed with the point about the GT as it is faster still, however, you'd not be disapointed with the move as it is a far more powerful card.

cheers for the advice guys, couldn't stretch to the gt, so picked up this card yesterday and am very impressed... battlefield2 runs very nicely now, along with 2142
