Quick question on current build

I'm busy installing a new retail Q6600 using the stock cooler, and I'm just a little nervous.

- On the motherboard instruction (and all previous experience) it calls for thermal grease.
- On the intel instruction it says just whack the heatsink on top.

On the bottom of the heatsink there does appear to be some sort of bonding agent, and the instruction says do it, but I can't help but worry about a fried CPU. On the other hand, I don't want twice as much thermal grease as necessary.

Any experience/ views?

Personally, I'd clean off whatever they have on the stock heatsink and apply an ultra-thin layer of thermal paste to the cpu.

just use the intel instructions (basically snap it on ;)) no need to fiddle with grease, if you want to OC you really should get a better cooler (those will require thermal grease).
