Ok, I'm just setting up my new 5870 when I came to the realisation that I have only have one power cable. You know, the one that runs from the PSU to the card. Auxiliary cable I think it's called. There's two inputs on the card but I only have one cable. Would the one cable work?

I just check on the PSU. I have two 6 pin slots free and the graphics card contain a 6 pin and an 8 pin input.

I'm not too sure that'll fit.

This is what I got. I marked where the inputs are I will use

and these are the inputs on the card ..

I need at least a 10 inch cable due to the crappy location of the inputs.

Do I need to molex cable then?

It looks like you have enough power connectors

No. I have a card sitting there with only one 6 pin (which go into the PSU) to 8 pin which DOESN'T fit the card. So in essence I have no cables here on my I can hook that card up with to the power supply

Do you not have the original cables that came with the psu in a black zipped bag.
The red sockets on the psu are for the pcie connections (I have the same psu).
One cable is the 6 pin and the other is a 6+2 pin connector.

No I checked. Whatever cables i have in that bag still isnt long enough to reach to the inputs. I emailed OCZ last night so hopefully I get an answer today. I'm just surprised that I can't buy them.

Sorry, one last question. I managed to find one PCI-E power cable in a box of parts I had. Sadly only one. Would it be enough to power the card for the moment?

Just had a reply back from OCZ, apparently it doesn't come with another set of cables since that PSU aren't meant to run any Xfire cards. So good excuse to buy another PSU :p

Can't help but wonder if the old boy is telling the truth or not.

It's a 600w for those who are wondering.

I don't know what they are talking about there, but that PSU should certainly have been packaged with two PCIE power cables: one 6 pin and one 6+2 pin. This diagram shows what it comes with and where they connect.

Would I be right in saying that you only have one of these PCIE power cables? Also, may I ask which one (6 or 6+2 pin)?

It also seems to come with a pair of modular cables that each have two molex power connectors attached to them (the bottom right cables in that diagram), do you have either of these available?

I have a 6 pin and a 6+2 pin. Use both to power my single 5870. I genuinely have nothing else that seems to be an obvious fit to the second 5870.

I'll post up a pic shortly of what other cables came with.

I checked last night when I was replying to your thread and OCZ have given out spare cables for psu's but within the US (easier as the headquarters are based there).
Unfortunately the European service/rma dept is in Holland so I guess it is not cost effective to offer to send cables to the UK.

Why not send a support ticket to them and try your luck, even offering to pay for a couple of cables is cheaper than a new psu.

I'll try for sure. Although, after all this effort, would a 600w cut the mustard? I checked and ATI reckons a 600 is fine for Xfire. Don't know why OCZ is claiming otherwise.

Ah, this is a second HD 5870 ?

I do believe that is the first time you have mentioned that.

In that case, no your PSU can't support it and would overload a 600W PSU.

/facepalm

You're right, I didn't. I kept wondering why I'm not making myself clear. I knew it in my head it was all about second card though :p

And I had such good pics ready to post about all my cables :/

I'll just grab a new PSU then.

Would a 750w do?
