Ok, I'm just setting up my new 5870 when I came to the realisation that I have only have one power cable. You know, the one that runs from the PSU to the card. Auxiliary cable I think it's called. There's two inputs on the card but I only have one cable. Would the one cable work?

I just check on the PSU. I have two 6 pin slots free and the graphics card contain a 6 pin and an 8 pin input.

I'm not too sure that'll fit.

This is what I got. I marked where the inputs are I will use

and these are the inputs on the card ..

I need at least a 10 inch cable due to the crappy location of the inputs.

Do I need to molex cable then?

It looks like you have enough power connectors

No. I have a card sitting there with only one 6 pin (which go into the PSU) to 8 pin which DOESN'T fit the card. So in essence I have no cables here on my I can hook that card up with to the power supply

Do you not have the original cables that came with the psu in a black zipped bag.
The red sockets on the psu are for the pcie connections (I have the same psu).
One cable is the 6 pin and the other is a 6+2 pin connector.

This.

In fact I have an ocz modxstream running my 480 right this second off of those two exact connectors. Unless you have more than one graphics card or are missing cables I must be misunderstanding... The two cables with the red ends are the ones you want.

To be clear - the second modular cable that you are looking for will look like the other 6 pin PCIE power connector - but with two other pins attached to it with a couple of short wires.

As the guys above said, if you can find the cables that came with your PSU then you will have enough to power this card. However, if you can't find any then you are unlikely to find a replacement on a normal retailer - since the cables are specific to particular PSU makes (and even models). Therefore you will either need to contact OCZ for a replacement (they will likely either give you a cable for very cheap or free, though you may need to pay for postage) or look for one second-hand.

No I checked. Whatever cables i have in that bag still isnt long enough to reach to the inputs. I emailed OCZ last night so hopefully I get an answer today. I'm just surprised that I can't buy them.

Sorry, one last question. I managed to find one PCI-E power cable in a box of parts I had. Sadly only one. Would it be enough to power the card for the moment?

Unfortunately no :(

You need to connect both power connectors on the graphics card to the PSU for it to work.

Though if you have a molex to PCIE power adapter to hand (and a couple of free molex ports) then you could get it running.
