Quick question on how to fill my loop

In the middle of my first watercooling project.

The res that came with my kit is slightly different to the one they have in the instructions, and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to use it to fill my loop.

This is the one I got. It's mounted on the mobo tray, with the pump beneath on the floor of the case. The instructions that came with the kit used this type of pump/res combo.

The res in the instructions can be opened with both pipes still attached. My one can't, as one of the pipes is attached to the top which has to be removed to fill it up.

So what's the technique to fill the loop with a res like this? The cap has a pipe attached that goes down into the res...... do I just unscrew the cap a bit but leave the pipe going into the res? Is it okay to turn on like this, to fill the loop, or am I supposed to fill it a bit and then screw the cap back on before I turn on the pump?

I had a look on youtube, but none of the guides I found used a res like this one. The only person I found using one, was this guy.;)

Well its the same sort of design. 1 connection on the cap and the other on the base.

I probably didn't explain properly.

In the instructions that came with the kit I bought, they've got the res/pump combo in the second link. They put some fluid in the res, then with the cap still off, flick on the PSU to fill the loop whilst constantly topping up the res when the level goes down.

So when I take the top right off my res, the loop isn't complete so obviously I can't turn on the psu when it's like that.

I was just asking how I do this part with my res. The cap has a clear pipe that goes from the connector down into the res, so If I take the top off, but position it so the clear pipe is still going into the res the loop is still complete, despite the cap being open.

Is this the equivalent of what they did in the instructions with their res? or do I need to fill the res a little bit and then screw the cap back on completely before I turn on the power to the pump?
