I just upgraded(?) to vista 64 and I want my start menu to be compact like I had it in XP. Ive changed everything how i would in XP and it doesn't seem to want to shrink down to just show around the text. Here's a screen shot of what I mean.

Any help ?

Thanks

There is a classic option

Right click on Task Bar > Properties > Start Menu then can select Classic Start Menu.

Thanks but I do want the normal start menu not the 98 one, I just want it to be shrunk around the items I have in it. XP used to do this automatically.

OK after actually clicking on the start button for the first time I see that it doesnt pop out like in xp so it probably needs all that room. Ill just fill it with a big list of commonly used progs.

Right click the start button > Properties > Start Menu > Customise > Number of Recent Programs to Display > Lower this number.

Right click the start button > Properties > Start Menu > Customise > Number of Recent Programs to Display > Lower this number.

No that doesnt work, thats what does it in XP.

Im wondering if I delete most the stuff out of the all programs if it will become smaller. Its ok though if it doesnt Ill just get used to it. It wont look so dum once I cna get a big list of recently used progs going.
