Quick Question! PCI-E Frequency!

Quick and easy question here, whats the standard frequency of PCI-E? Ive got it set at 90mhz at the moment in the BIOS but im not sure thats the right frequency.

Is the correct standard freqeuncy 100mhz?

Just changed it from 90 to 100 and its made difference to my 3dmark05 score whatsoever, so whats the point it the frequency?

by changing the frequency you can overclock better, therefore your score should go up with a higher overclock
 
Overclocking the PCI-E will only increase the bandwidth which I believe is not bottlenecked in anyway so it will net you zero performance increase. What it will do is make the bus more flacky which could lead to instability. Just lock it to 100 if your OCing just like you would lock the PCI bus to 33Mhz.
 
always lock my pci and pci-e, did it when i was on agp also. At 4.0GHz at the mo will push further at a later date when i get bored!
 
Some say a PCI-E speed of up to 120mhz has given overclock/performance increases.

It certainly allowed me to do 20mhz more on Core + Mem on my X1900XT ona DFI SLi-DR when I changed from 100 to 105.

On my P5B Deluxe they say 120 :eek:

Why would it do that?

I can't see how it would make any difference unless the graphics card is deriving its clock from the PCI-E bus. Which it doesn't

Unless it compensates and slackens any timings

nah for sum reason ATI card will overclock a lot more with a pci-e of 105, i could overclock my x1800xt by double what i could at 100, ive not tried with my x1900xt because it already overclocked so much on 100

Strange. I can't see why adjusting the PCI-E would give you a better overclock. Goes against logic. No extra volts are being supplied to the memory/gpu. All that your doing is increasing the speed of the bus.

Anyone why?

Will have to give it a try but it sounds complete BS to me. :)
 
yea i have seen the sticky on the top of this forum, its recommended 110mhz for pci-e frequency. but i don;t know if its that save to push it to that level?
 
In my experience, increasing the PCI-e frequency has caused my partitions to corrupt. Then again, my current motherboard does not take kindly to overclocking one little bit :)
