I have a AB350 Gaming motherboard and I bought a VR panel for the front of the case but I've never set it up properly.

I purchased a couple of extra case Dan's today and a modular PSU and thought a strip down, clean and rebuild was in order.

I put the VR panel in the from of my case and I have three cables that come out the back. 1 is the hdmi cable, I will plug this into my Aorus 1080ti in the case. The other 2 cables are standard usb ends, where am I supposed to plug these in so that I have extra usb 3 ports on the front?

I can't see anywhere in my MB that takes a standard usb plug?

Any help appreciated.

Thank you.

Standard USB plug, as in the black blocks with 9 or 10 pins in it or an actual USB plug like on the end of a mouse etc ?

If its the black rectangular block, they plug into ports along the bottom of your motherboard, see picture.

If it the plug as in the type you get on your mouse etc, then you'll have to route them around the back.

Cheers Jamin, they are the type go have on the end of a mouse, seems a bit point less then really. I will connect up the hdmi so that I can use that on the rift, I will leave the usb disconnected. I don't suppose there's an adapter you can buy??

Thanks for the reply

Yes there is, you'll have to google this as I cant link external sources, but you could get 2 of these and connect them to one of your internal USB 2.0 headers:

StarTech 4-pin USB Motherboard Header (F) to USB 2.0 Type-A (F) 0.15m Grey Retail Packaged Internal Cable

Not sure if OCuk sell anything like this.

Or you could get something like this, and just unscrew the PCI bracket off it, then place it somewhere discrete:

Cheers Jamin, I had a look on eBay and grabbed one, it's a twin so I can connect them both through one header. Swapping my current PSU for a modular one so with a few cable ties and cable tie pads I should be able to keep it tidy!

One last thing mate, I've grabbed a couple of Crosair ML14 RGB fans, will these plug straight into the 2 spare 4 pin fan headers on the motherboard?

Thanks for your help mate

Do they not come with some sort of controller with them ? to control the speed and LED's ? im using Corsair fans too, I had HD120's and now using LL120's, I got a set of 3, came in a box with a small corsair link controller.

That's the set I bought, is it an easy install?

Yes dead easy, each fan has 2 cables coming out of it, 1 cable to a PWM fan header on your motherboard, the other cable is the RGB cable, plug the RGB into 1 & 2 on the bigger control box, you must use 1 & 2, and connect an SATA power to the control box, in the future, you don't need to buy the set if you want more fans, each box supports upto 6 fans, but you must plug them in sequence.

then the bigger control box plugs into the smaller box (corsair link box) and connect an SATA cable to power that, it comes with a USB cable which connects from the corsair link box to a USB 2 header on your motherboard, then download the corsair link software to control the lighting effects on the fans, the speed of the fans needs to be controlled by setting a fan curve for them in your motherboards bios fan control section or your motherboards monitoring software (Easytune)

Nice one Jamin thank you.

I will have a look at easy tune once I've got everything set up.

I bought a screw kit today that has a mix of fixings for PC building. My main reason for buying it was I needed some standoffs for my motherboard. I sent my motherboard back to OC with them still in it and they never returned them to me so Im 3 short and the motherboard could do with a better fix.

The standoffs that came in the kit were M3 size but these are to small, i tried an M3.5 standard screw and that fits but I can find M3.5 standoffs anywhere, any ideas??

Sorry, messed up my terminology - try 6-32 instead of 6/32!

Thanks mate worked a treat.

Hi Mate,

All went well, pc rebuilt and running much cooler now the new fans have been installed.

I downloaded the software to change the colours on the fans and it was working fine but then one of the fans went off and no matter what I try I cant get it turn back on. It's still spinning it's just the lights that aren't working?

I've also noticed that my USB 3 connector that goes from the front of my case to the USB 3 header on the motherboard keeps popping out, it doesn't totally click in. I think this is what was causing me problems in the past. Have you come across this before?
