quick question RAM.

Mates just bought an Acer laptop which only came with 2 x 512mb of ram. I know DDR usually comes in pairs. But he went and bought a single 2gb stick. Instead of 2 x 1 GB sticks. Will it work with a single stick?

or does he need to buy another one.

It will work with 1 stick, just will not be quite as fast as it could be. He could probably put in one of the 512mb sticks as well. Normally boards are not so picky these days, so worth a shot.

Yeah, with only one stick you loose the dual channel benefit.

And if you stick two different types of DDR in, then it will run as fast as the slowest DDR (if that makes sense!)
