If I were to move the My Documents folder from the default location to a seperate hard disk, and then for whatever reason have to reformat and reinstall Windows on the original hard disk, would the My Documents folder on the seperate hard disk be deleted or overwritten?

Cheers!

Awesome, I didn't think so, since the new installation would use the default location for My Documents. I've also just figured out that I can assign different locations for the Desktop contents, Favorites, Start Menu, etc. which is really cool!

After what I've been through recently I want to keep my system files and applications seperate from my data so if I ever have any problems I can format the disk and/or install Windows and know that I won't lose anything.

Just out of interest, is there a way to have the ENTIRE Documents and Settings folder located on a seperate hard disk?

Not that I've found. I've been trying to put it on a ramdisk for a while, but I can't see any way of remapping the entire %USERPROFILE% directory...
