Quick question regarding lino floors

In our haste to get our bathroom done last year we just put the lino down onto the floorboards, which doesn't look as good as if I have put ply down first so I'm going to go back and do this now. The floorboards are in good condition and fairly level so I was planning on putting a fairly thin layer of ply down then replacing the lino (if I don't tare it while pulling it up!). How thin can I get away with? I was thinking no thicker than 6mm if possible? Also in terms of expansion gaps, do I need one? If so how big? Won't it look crap round the edges of the room if I make one? Nail or screws? I was thinking nails/tacks.

Cheers

Dave

You can use 3mm board. Dampen them and leave in the room for 24 hours. Then fit with staples. As they dry they will tighten like a drum
