Hi all,

Upgrading an old machine, it was built with 128mb of pc100 sdram.

Will I be able to put say 2x256mb in there to get 512?

The reason I ask is that my thinking is this....at the time the mobo was made, 128mb was the single biggest module on the public market, so will the mobo be compatable with modules higher than that?

Its a question that may or may not get an answer I know but I cant find info on the mobo anywhere, its well been burried and forgotten about.

Thanks

Seeing this has got me thinking.
I'm currently RAM'ing a 512MB sdr pc100 stick as it appears to be dead, my linux rig won't boot at all with it. WIll be watching this thread.

Its intresting isnt it, I was going to get 2 x 256 pc100 sdram modules from..nearly mentioned a competitor....and run them, but then I wondered if it would even know what any module above 128mb was.

I never really thought this would be a possible problem until I saw this thread....
Sadly I don't know anyone with a newer SDR combatable mobo which I could try it on.
I need to get round to sending them back anyway, I applied for the RMA about a week ago, I wonder if *competitor* will get annoyed by that......
returning my usb tv stick aswell, it was rubbish (understatement there)

Anyone know the answer????

Check the motherboard manual from the manufacturers website.

My old MSI mobo that came with my PIII-800 (100FSB) ran 256MB modules max and only with 2 of the 3 slots filled so 1/2 gig max. It was good enough to run 2003server though.

Like I said check the manual and you shall find your answers :)

Damn I don't have any instructions on this old board I got, cant find anything on the mobo when I google it either....
