Hello

Just a quick question as i have never done this before. I currently have a cable connection which goes into my cable modem and into a Linksys WRT54G. I would like to make my wired network gigabit instead of 100mb while keeping my wireless router.

So could i go from cable modem > wireless router to cable model > gigabit switch > wireless router.

Here is a little image ( yes i know my photoshop skills are top notch )

"cable modem > wireless router > gigabit switch" Would work, but to what benefit? I take it you have more wired PCs than in the diagram?

Well Im thinking of getting a NAS. Also if i went from modem > wireless > switch wouldnt that lower the speed of the network down to 100mb due to the wrt54g being 10/100?

Plug the modem into the WAN port of the wireless router.

From one of the 10/100 ports on the router, plug in a gigabit switch.

Plug in your NAS/PCs into the gigabit switch.

The ports on the gigabit switch will be auto-sensing, and there's no problem plugging in devices of multiple speeds, each device will run as fast as it possibly can (be it 10mbps, 100mbps or 1gbps)

Ok that makes sence. I was getting a bit confused thinking the internet connection needed to be on the gigabit switch but it has no benifit.

Im thinking just this cheapish switch
