Quick question - updating iTunes?

I have been informed there is an update, well a later version and i am currently very afraid to carry out the update unless i know for certain my music won't be damaged/ruined as i have spent hours perfecting all 5000+ songs...

So i just need to download the later one, overwrite the old 'iTunes' main file?

I just install over the current install, never broke for me. If you want to be safe, click File - Export Library and save it somewhere so if you need to restore your library if it breaks, click File - Import Library then click where it is. This will restore it like before.
